Oh look, it’s another New Year’s Resolutions blog post! How insightful and original and eloquent and interesting it is! Let’s read what this person promises to change about themselves in the next year, and make bets on when they’ll fail! Exclamation points! ALL CAPS MEANS WE’RE SHOUTING!!!!!!
That sounds like fun. Not.
I did one of those posts around this time last year, and do you know what I accomplished? Not freaking much. Part of that may be because there were only 5 things on my list last year and 2 of them were silly and didn’t count. Let’s review, shall we?
#1 - Be nicer to people/Be more patient. - Well. I am still easily annoyed. I think I’ve gotten better at not showing it, but people still annoy me. This computer also annoys me, and I think I have shown great restraint by not chucking it across the room, as I have wanted to do every time I boot it up. Progress? I’ll allow it.
Resolution Accomplishment: 6/10
#2 - Eat less, Move more. - I’m going to be honest: this year was one loooooooooong plateau. I’m pretty much where I started last year, with some minor (or slightly more than minor) fluctuations around the holidays. I have a gym membership, and I do really like the feeling after I work out, I’m just lacking the get-up-and-go-do-it stuff. I think right now it’s the “ew I’m so bloated and icky from eating CRAP the past two months and NOBODY wants to see me in these workout pants, I GUARANTEE IT” mindset. I know I shouldn’t care, and I should get up and go work out, it will help. It’s just my stupid brain and my stupid ego. Maybe I’ll stop complaining and just leave this here and go right now. Progress?? NOPE.
Resolution Accomplishment: 0/10*
#3 - Be craftier/Write more. - Ok, this one I actually did something about! I attempted NaNoWriMo in November, and made a pretty decent dent in the 50,000 word goal. For someone who doesn’t write very often, 13,000 words in two weeks was a pretty big deal. This year I will definitely attempt it again, and this time I will actually plan ahead. I also taught myself how to crochet, and used that new-found skill to make some pretty rad scarves for some friends and family! The only mistake I made was not getting a picture of the final products. Anne, Wil? Can you do me a favour and snap a pic of your neckwarmers?! They’re pretty freaking rad, if I may say so.**
Resolution Accomplishment: 8/10
So there you have it. I made some reasonable progress in one area, a smidgen of progress in another, and absolutely no progress in the third. With that said, I’m going to stop writing, and go to the gym. No more whining. So…meet me here next year? I’ll be the hot one with the really interesting blog who is nice to everyone and makes everyone a totally rad scarf.
* Would not bang.
** Hint: I may say so, because it’s my blog and you can’t do anything about it. Tough beans.
